Ceiling Painters in Chesterfield

Chesterfield Decorators are ceiling painters covering period and modern properties across the town.
- Smooth ceiling painting: consistent coverage, no roller tracks
- Artex and textured ceilings: sealed and painted without damaging texture
- Cornicing and ceiling roses: hand-cut at every junction
- Water stain treatment: sealed before painting to prevent bleed-through
- High ceilings: access equipment included in the quote
Ceilings tell you more about a decorator’s preparation than any other surface. Uneven coverage catches light badly. Poorly cut edges at cornicing stand out from the floor.
We have painted ceilings across Chesterfield’s housing stock: high Edwardian ceilings in Brampton, Artex in post-war semis in Hasland, and smooth plasterboard in modern extensions in Wingerworth.
Ceiling painting is part of our full interior painting service covering every surface type across the town.

Smooth Ceiling Painting
A smooth ceiling shows every imperfection in raking light. Roller lap marks, thin patches, and missed spots are all visible once the room is lit.
Your decorator uses ceiling-specific paints with high opacity and applies them with a consistent technique to avoid lap marks. Two coats are standard on sound ceilings.
Artex and Textured Ceilings
Artex ceilings are common in Chesterfield’s 1950s to 1980s housing stock, particularly in Loundsley Green, Hasland, and Staveley. Painting Artex requires a different approach from smooth ceilings.
Your decorator uses the correct roller for the texture depth and applies sufficient paint to achieve even coverage. The texture is preserved, not masked.
Cornicing and Ceiling Roses
Original cornicing in Brampton and Newbold’s Victorian terraces is one of the first details a buyer notices. Clean edges at the wall-ceiling junction read as quality.
We hand-cut all cornicing and ceiling rose junctions with a brush. Each petal and profile edge is cut individually.
Water Damage and Staining
A water stain on a ceiling signals a past or ongoing leak. We do not paint over active leaks. Once the source is fixed and the plaster is dry, stains need sealing before repainting.
Your decorator uses shellac-based or oil-based stain blockers on water-damaged areas. These seal the stain permanently. The finish coat then goes on cleanly with no bleed-through.
High Ceilings
Many of Chesterfield’s Victorian and Edwardian properties in Brampton and Newbold have ceilings of 10 feet or more. Access equipment is required for safe, quality work at this height.
We include access platform hire in our quotes for high-ceiling rooms. We do not use ladders alone for full-ceiling work on period properties.

Here’s How It Works
1. Ceiling Assessment
We check the surface condition: existing coating type, any water staining, Artex texture depth, and any cracks or loose plaster. Access requirements for high-ceiling rooms are noted.
2. Stain and Crack Treatment
Water stains are sealed with a stain blocker before any emulsion goes on. Cracks are filled with flexible filler and sanded flat. Loose plaster is stabilised and primed.
3. Cutting In
All edges are cut in by hand before rolling. Cornicing, ceiling roses, and wall junctions are cut with a brush. This is where the quality of the finished ceiling is decided.
4. Rolling
Your decorator rolls the ceiling in consistent sections, maintaining a wet edge to prevent lap marks. Two coats are standard. Each coat gets adequate drying time before the next.
5. Final Check
Once the final coat is dry, we check coverage in raking light. A torch held at a low angle catches any thin patches or marks. Touch-ups are done before we leave.
