Door Painters in Chesterfield

Chesterfield Decorators are Chesterfield’s door painters, covering interior doors throughout homes across Brampton, Walton, and Newbold.
- Panel doors: Victorian raised-panel and Edwardian styles
- Flush doors: modern flat doors, smooth factory finish
- Door frames and architraves: painted to match
- Wardrobe and fitted storage doors
- Fire doors: painted in place with correct coatings
Doors take more daily wear than almost any other painted surface. Chips, scuffs, and yellowed gloss make rooms look tired even after fresh walls. Your decorator prepares, primes, and finishes interior doors properly so they hold their look.

Door Painting Services in Chesterfield
Interior Panel Doors
Victorian terraces in Brampton and Newbold typically have raised four- or six-panel doors with detailed mouldings. These need a brush, not a roller. We hand-paint around every profile and edge to keep the detail crisp.
Panel doors on 100-year-old joinery often have multiple layers of old gloss. Whether stripping or overcoating is right is assessed. See our interior painting page for the full interior scope.
Flush Doors
Modern flush doors in Walton and Hasland demand perfect coverage. Every imperfection shows under interior lighting. Your decorator sprays flush doors where possible to get a smooth, factory-quality result with no brush marks.
Filler is applied to any dents or dings first. Doors are sanded flat, primed, and finished in eggshell or satin.
Door Frames and Architraves
Frames and architraves are often in worse condition than the doors themselves. Scuffs, paint build-up, and chips around striker plates are typical. Your decorator treats them as part of the same job.
Your decorator fills, sands, and primes all frame sections before painting. Colour is matched to the door or contrasted as required.
Wardrobe and Fitted Storage Doors
Built-in wardrobes and fitted storage are common in 1960s and 1970s homes across Loundsley Green and Walton. These doors are often painted over repeatedly and look heavy and tired.
We degrease, sand, and recoat storage doors to bring them back. A two-coat eggshell finish makes fitted storage look current again.
Wood Painting and Specialist Finishes
Some customers in Chesterfield want a specific finish on original hardwood doors. We carry out oil-based satin, full gloss, and contemporary eggshell finishes. We can also apply a stain-and-varnish system to expose the timber grain.
All specialist finishes begin with the same preparation: the surface is sanded back to a consistent base. See our wood painting page for more detail on timber finishes.

Here’s How It Works
1. Assessment
We examine every door and frame. Your decorator notes the existing coating, any damage, and whether the door needs stripping or can be overcoated. Fire doors are flagged for appropriate coatings.
2. Preparation
Doors are degreased, sanded, and filled. Multiple coats of old paint may be stripped back where they are causing surface problems. Masking is applied to protect walls, floors, and hardware.
3. Priming
Bare timber gets a wood primer. MDF edges get sealed with an MDF primer to prevent swelling. Priming is the foundation the finish coat depends on.
4. Finish Coats
Eggshell or satin is applied in two coats, with a full drying period between each. Flush doors are sprayed where practical. Panel doors are hand-applied using quality brushes.
5. Check and Touch-Up
Every door is checked before we leave. Edges are inspected for runs or thin areas. Hardware is cleaned and replaced. Doors are left to fully cure before heavy use.

Door Painting Costs in Chesterfield
Prices below are estimates. Every job is different. Call 01246 607076 for a precise quote.

Door Type
Panel doors take longer than flush doors. A six-panel Victorian door with detailed mouldings is more work than a smooth flush door.
Condition
Doors with heavy paint build-up or damage require more preparation time. Old gloss that is flaking or obscuring the profile detail may need stripping before any new coating can go on.
Scope
Painting all interior doors in a Victorian terrace at once is more efficient than single doors. Combining the work reduces masking and setup time.
Typical Ranges
Single door with frame: £80 to £150 per door. Full hallway set (five to six doors, frames, and architraves): £400 to £700. Whole house refresh: £700 to £1,500 depending on number of doors and condition.
